Oil carried through the Strait of Hormuz collapsed from nearly 20.8 million barrels on October 8 2026 to 2.9 million on October 11, per Kpler, against a pre-war average of 17.1 million a day. Kpler counted 10 tankers struck between September 28 and October 4, and UKMTO recorded 15 more attacks from October 6 to 14. Iran's navy deployed surveillance units east of the strait and across the Sea of Oman, and the US-led JMIC rated the threat to merchant shipping severe. The partial recovery recorded for September did not hold into October.
