Economic Data Evidence

August 2026 nonfarm payrolls were revised down to 133,000 from the 162,000 first reported on September 4, in the September Employment Situation released October 2. The August print remains well above its 53,000 consensus, but the revision removes most of the upside surprise and, with July revised to a loss of 10,000, the summer labour market is weaker than the first prints showed. The unemployment rate for August is unrevised at 4.1%.
