The United States struck approximately 100 IRGC targets in and around the Strait of Hormuz on September 1 2026 - the largest American action since July 29 - and for the first time hit two Iranian government tankers. CENTCOM said the strikes followed IRGC attempts to attack US troops and commercial shipping in the strait, and covered air defence sites, radar, maritime assets, mine-laying capability and communications infrastructure.
