Central banks bought a record 289 tonnes of gold in Q2 2026 - the strongest second quarter in World Gold Council records and up 62% from 177.9 tonnes a year earlier - accumulated through a quarter in which gold posted its steepest quarterly decline in a decade. Poland led with 51 tonnes, taking its first-half total to 82 tonnes.
